Marble portrait of the Roman Emperor who reigned from 161 to 180 CE. His statues were raised in cities across the Roman Empire; this head was found in the exedra of Qasr al-Bint Temple at Petra. An inscription reveals that it was set there by the governor of Provincia Arabia, Publius Iulius Geminius Marcianus. A second portrait in the same exedra is of co-regent Lucius Verus (who died in 169 CE). Roman period, 166-169 CE. From Qar al-Bint Temple, Petra, Jordan. (The Jordan Museum, Amman, Jordan).
