An 1867 painting in oils, The Clearing, by Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), the French post-impressionist artist. One of the clearest indications of the influence of impressionism on Cézanne. The artist is using a broader range of colours and shades to achieve his effects and create spatial depth. (Private Collection)
