Saint Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, photograph by Nheyob, Jalisco, 03 March 2015.
This photograph is of Saint Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin from the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan in Jalisco, Mexico. The saint is depicted with a halo surrounding his head and wearing the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on his cloak. The golden leaves and flowers behind the statue signify the miraculous flowers he found at the instruction of the apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe on the hill of Tepeyacac. The flowers, placed in Juan Diego's cloak by the apparition, created the image still emblazoned on the fabric held in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
