This image was taken by the US Army's Medical Department in WWI, which fell under the supervision of US War Department. Fort Porter's US General Hospital No. 4 in New York was used to house and care for soldiers suffering from influenza. A unique feature of the 1918 Flu Pandemic was the number of young individuals affected, particularly young men returning from the war.
