The Interior of a Hospital Tent, watercolour painting by John Singer Sargent, 1918
Soldiers lie in beds whilst recovering from sickness or combat related injuries in a World War I field hospital. The artist had been stricken with influenza in September, 1918 and was subsequently bedridden for a week at a hospital much like the one shown. Here the lived experiences of the influenza pandemic and World War I paint a broader picture of the connection between war and diseases.
