The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was an American Civil War engagement in the Atlanta Campaign, fought 27 June 1864, in which Union forces were repulsed by staunch Confederate positions on the mountain heights. Although victorious, a flanking manoeuvre days later compelled the Confederates to abandon their hold.
