The Brave Boy of the Waxhaws, lithographic print by Currier & Ives, 1876.
Depicted here is a young Andrew Jackson (1767-1845), current captive of the British in the American Revolution and future president of the United States, being struck by a redcoat officer after refusing to clean the man's boots. The scars left by the officer's saber would serve as a symbol of Jackson's enmity towards Britain.
