La Malinche speaking with Hernán Cortés, book illustration in Diego Durán's Historia de las Indias de Nueva España e islas de la tierra firme, p. 207, 1579.
This illustration is included in a large manuscript about the history of Spain's colonial possessions in New Spain, with particular attention paid to Aztec civilization and various indigenous populations in what is now Mexico. Here Hernán Cortés, seated on a red stool, is in conversation with his soon-to-be interpreter and confidant, La Malinche.
