Roman ruins of the Capitol of Dougga, photograph by Carole Raddato, Tunisia, 04 October, 2024.
Built in 166-167 CE during the joint reign of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, the Capitol of Dougga is one of Tunisia’s most impressive Roman monuments. This temple, dedicated to the Capitoline triad of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, was constructed from local hard limestone using the opus africanum technique and is elevated on a high podium.
