Surrender of Santa Anna, oil on canvas painting by William Henry Huddle, 1886.

Depicted here is the morning after the Battle of San Jacinto, fought April 21, 1836. Captured General Santa Anna, commanding the Mexican forces, surrenders to General Sam Houston of the Texian army, who lies wounded from injuries sustained in the fight. The battle would be the decisive engagement in the Texas Revolution, leading to the end of Mexican rule over the territory.
