Harding's portrait, a marked depiction away from the consummate frontiersman David 'Davy' Crockett (1786-1836) came to be known as, was painted while Crockett was a Tennessee congressman. After his final tenure in office, Crockett joined in the Texas Revolution, where he would perish at the Battle of the Alamo in 1836, cementing his role as a mythic figure in American folklore.
