Murder of the Duke of Orléans, illumination on parchment by the Master of the Vienna Chroniques d'Angleterre, included in Enguerrand de Monstrelet's Chronique, folio 52, Bruges, c. 1470-1480.
During a power struggle for the throne of France in 1407, Duke Louis I of Orléans was assassinated by order of Duke John the Fearless of Burgundy. Louis I and Queen Isabeau, wife of King Charles VI of France, formed a faction in the royal court that sought to rule France during Charles' many mental health episodes.
