Ball of the Burning Men, illumination on parchment by Phillipe de Mazerolle, included in Jean Froissart's treatise Froissart's Chronicles, Book 4, c. 1470.
Depiction of the deadly Ball of the Burning Men (French: Bal des Ardents) at the French court in January 1393. Though King Charles VI of France survived the fire, four of the other dancers did not; the tragedy was seen by many as evidence of the decadence of the French court, and contributed to Charles VI's descent into madness.
