Storming of Chapultepec in Mexico, Sept. 13th, 1847. Lithograph depicting the US Army's taking of Chapultepec castle, printed by unknown artist, possibly published by James Baillie, ca. 08 February 1848.
The Battle of Chapultepec took place at the castle fortress of the same name where Mexican troops hoped to counter the U.S. advance into Mexico City. The taking of the fort was a pivotal moment in Mexican history, as it paved the way for the fall of capital of Mexico and its defeat in the Mexican-American War.
