This calcite-alabaster chest and its lid were made for storing the canopic jars of Shoshenq I (reigned 943-922 BCE), the founder of the 22nd (Bubastite or Libyan) Dynasty of Egypt. The nomen and prenomen cartouches of Shoshenq I are carved on the surface. The precise provenance of Shoshenq I's tomb is unknown. This relic is the only funerary object linked to Shoshenq I; in 1891 CE, Julius Isaac donated this canopic chest to the Egyptian Museum of Berlin (now part of the Neues Museum). From Egypt. Third Intermediate Period. It is on display at the Neues Museum, Berlin, Germany.
