Here, Skip Morris, the author of 18 print-and-paper books on fly fishing and tying flies, guides you through 12 great nymph-flies and how to catch trout on them in creeks, streams, and rivers. You get a color photograph of every fly. Skip tells you all about each fly—what it imitates, what it’s designed to do, what it does do in the water, and more. Next, he teaches you how to fish each nymph-fly effectively—the best times to fish it, how deep in the water to fish it, deadly methods for fishing it (through illustrations and instructions), and more. He describes these methods plainly, so you can go right out and make them work. He even provides a section that helps you decide which nymph will best fit your specific fishing conditions and helps choose the best method for catching trout on it at that moment. Top 12 Nymphs for Trout Streams, How, When, and Where to Fish Them (2nd Edition) contains about 28,000 words, 25 color photographs showing all the flies and the creatures they imitate (a few of the shots are just to make you smile and sigh—one of a gorgeous cutthroat trout, others of grand fishing scenes on beautiful trout rivers). Also included: 27 illustrations (two are really fine-art paintings) that teach you fishing methods, rigs, and knots. Figuring out trout flies is often overwhelming for the new fly fisher and confusing enough even for the old pro. Let Skip guide you through 12 outstanding trout nymphs and how, when, and where to catch fish on them. And enjoy an entertaining read too.

When I bought this book, it stated there were two in this series, so I ordered. I thought I would also receive the book about dry flies in addition to the book about nymphs. The book on nymphs is excellent, and I'll give it away as a retirement present, but I really want Morris' book on dry flies. I don't want the kindle version of the dry fly book. I want a paper and ink copy.

Reading Top 12 Nymphs for Trout Streams is like spending a weekend on a trout stream with a fly fishing master who is passing all they've learned about nymph fishing unto you. Yes! It's so much more than just fly patterns. And not surprising as the author has the gift of making the subject clear and easily understood. There is a sense of his joy in sharing his knowledge.

At first I though Top 12 Nymphs... would be the recipes for the author's favorite nymphs patterns, which it is, that is they're included. The author over delivers with a detailed chapter on each; such as how and when to fish it, suggestions on the method of presenting the fly for different on the water situations, hook sizes, colors, and so forth.

Chapter 17 explains methods of nymph fly fishing including Czech Nymphing, The Swing, and Upstream, along with three other methods and the flies to use with each. There is also a detail guide in this chapter on knot tying noting "a couple of specific angles regarding knots for nymph fishing in trout streams."

Under the heading of The System the author reveals four situations on the stream and the fishing methods and fly choices for a good result.

As the author's intention is to show us what we need to know to select the right nymph pattern and how to fish it I was completely satisfied that the goal was reached. Best $4.95 (kindle) I've spent in years. Highly recommend Skip Morris' Top 12 Nymphs For Trout Streams or any of his other fly fishing books - most of which I've read over the years.

This book is an extremely helpful resource for someone who is serious about learning to fly fish. Skip Morris breaks down the fundamentals to nymph fishing and explains them in a way that has put me light years ahead in the learning curve in all aspects of fly fishing. A must read!

The book was written in a way that leaves me feeling like I know how to effectively try nymphing. I can’t wait for spring!

Very good book. Tons to learn. Fly fishing for 20 years, still learning. Wet flies are my favorite way to fish, but usaully end up nymphing. What I like about this book is it gives you a plan. You go to the water see what is happening. Then use Skip's system. He gives you situations of what is going on. Then flies and methods to try. Picking a fly and having confidence it should work is a big deal. I have a system I use on stocked trout involving color. I made a little lamaneted cards to carry . I plan to do the same with Dave's system. Great read! Thanks Skip
