Forum Piazza - Ancient Rome Live

The central forum piazza, about the size of a football field was a place of meeting and socialization, assembly, voting, riots and entertainment (gladiator fights). This site was inundated with statuary of every type, hemmed in with honorary columns in front of the Basilica Julia in the late 3rd - early 4th Century CE. To the east there was added the Late Antique rostra to mirror the Augustan rostra to the west. Stand out monuments today in the piazza are the base of the equestrian statue of Trajan, Lacus Curtius, and replanted vine, olive tree, and fig trees, mentioned in ancient sources.
