## Image Caption

The Milanese regularly reinforced the Castlegrande castle throughout the 15th century CE. They also rebuilt the Murata - the walls located on the west side of Castelgrande - in addition to reinforcing the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/)’s walls. Although the Swiss attempted to take Bellinzona and Ticino in 1449 CE ([Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of Castione), 1478 CE (Battle of Giornico), and 1487 CE (Battle of Crevola), they were unable to do so as a result of the superior engineering and military prowess of the Milanese engineering. Castelgrande's present design and silhouette reflect the indelible Milanese imprint on Bellinzona.
