General view of the Lion of [Babylon](https://www.worldhistory.org/babylon/) statue. The surrounding area and the pedestal underwent a renovation work recently. The statue itself underwent no changes. The work has been completed by now and the ribbon has been removed, thereafter. The [palace](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/palace/) of Saddam Hussein, which was built on an artificial mound, appears behind the statue.
