Amulet in the shape of [Thor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Thor/)'s hammer, Mjollnir. It is a commercial copy of an archaeological find dating to the [Viking Age](https://www.worldhistory.org/collection/29/the-viking-age/) (c. 790-1100 CE) excavated at Rømersdal, Bornholm, Denmark. In the [Viking](https://www.worldhistory.org/Vikings/) Age, talismans such as [Odin](https://www.worldhistory.org/odin/)’s head, Thor’s hammer, and, after the rise of [Christianity](https://www.worldhistory.org/christianity/) (c. 10th-12th centuries CE), Christ’s cross were frequently used to ward off spirits and ghosts.
