## Image Caption

This head of a [Buddha](https://www.worldhistory.org/Siddhartha_Gautama/) made from andesite comes from the ancient [Buddhist](https://www.worldhistory.org/buddhism/) [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of [Borobudur](https://www.worldhistory.org/Borobudur/), which is located on the island of Java in what is now present-day Indonesia. This specimen dates from the 9th century CE. (Museum Rietberg, Zürich).
