It is an account of the [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) campaigns of [Ashurbanipal](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ashurbanipal/) II, king of [Assyria](https://www.worldhistory.org/assyria/) (reigned 668-627 BCE) and his reception of an embassy from Gyges, the first king of [Lydia](https://www.worldhistory.org/lydia/). From the [library of Ashurbanipal](https://www.worldhistory.org/Library_of_Ashurbanipal/) II at [Nineveh](https://www.worldhistory.org/nineveh/), in modern-day Iraq. Neo-Assyrian period, c. 660 BCE.
