## Image Caption

Construction of the [Colosseum](https://www.worldhistory.org/Colosseum/) in [Rome](https://www.worldhistory.org/Rome/) was begun in 72 CE by [Vespasian](https://www.worldhistory.org/Vespasian/) and completed between 81 and 96 CE in the reign of [Domitian](https://www.worldhistory.org/domitian/). The arena hosted [gladiator](https://www.worldhistory.org/gladiator/) contests, wild animal hunts and public executions.
