A [bronze](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/bronze/) tablet dedicated to Sextus Pompeius Maximus, chief priest of the cult of Mithras and president of a guild of ferrymen. The tablet was given by fellow priests of Mithras. Above the text are a bust of Mithras, a sacrificial knife, and a patera (libation bowl). Sextus Pompeius is known from another text to have restored a sanctuary of Mithras at [Ostia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ostia/). Probably from Ostia, in modern-day [Italy](https://www.worldhistory.org/italy/). [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) period, c. 200 CE. (The British Museum, London).
