Great [Temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) (height: 110 feet / 33 meters, width: 127 feet / 38 meters) built under the 19th dynasty. On the facade, four colossuses about 67 feet / 20 meters high represent Rameses II (1290-1223 BCE). The complete work is 270 feet / 68 meters in depth, and entirely carved in the rock. Shown here: Detail of one of the [giant](https://www.worldhistory.org/Giants/) statues, between whose feet may be seen the statue of the royal children. The scale of the statue's proportions is indicated by the human figure. [Abu Simbel](https://www.worldhistory.org/Abu_Simbel/), Nubia, [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/) (October 1959)
