A detail of the [sculpture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Sculpture/) which adorns the screen of the chancel of [Chartres Cathedral](https://www.worldhistory.org/Chartres_Cathedral/), France. Executed from c. 1530 CE and slowly added to over the following two centuries, the screen has 40 niches containing large figure sculptures depicting the key events of the lives of Mary and [Jesus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jesus_Christ/) from the Nativity to the Resurrection.
