## Image Caption

Site of the [Viking](https://www.worldhistory.org/Vikings/) trading centre of [Hedeby](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hedeby/), which flourished under the Danish [Vikings](https://www.worldhistory.org/Vikings/) from the 8th-11th centuries CE and lies in present-day northern Germany, near the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of Schleswig. Archaeological excavations are ongoing but the Hedeby Viking Museum (Danish: Vikingemuseum Hedeby; German: Wikinger Museum Haithabu) in Busdorf, Germany contains among others reconstructed houses from the town (visible in the distance in this photograph).
