## Image Caption

This map illustrates the trading networks which connected the [Ptolemaic Kingdom](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ptolemaic_Egypt/) to South Asia and East [Africa](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/africa/) by the second half of the 1st century BCE. During this time period, [Ptolemaic Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ptolemaic_Egypt/) was a major player in the spice [trade](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/trade/) which was conducted between Asia and the [Mediterranean](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/mediterranean/). Perfumes, cosmetics, textiles, ivory, precious stones, and other goods were also transported through these trade networks. The trade between [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/) and [India](https://www.worldhistory.org/india/) increased dramatically after the [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) [conquest](https://www.worldhistory.org/warfare/) of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, to the benefit of [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) port [cities](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) like Myos Hormos and Berenike.
