## Image Caption

The Templo de Debod is an ancient [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) (c. 200 BCE) reconstructed in Madrid. The temple was a gift from the [Egyptian government](https://www.worldhistory.org/Egyptian_Government/) to Spain in gratitude for the Spanish UNESCO workers who saved the [Abu Simbel](https://www.worldhistory.org/Abu_Simbel/) temples from the rising waters of the [Nile](https://www.worldhistory.org/nile/) (which were rising due to the construction of the Aswan Dam). The temple was originally constructed south of Philae in southern [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/) and was a chapel dedicated to the [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) [Amun](https://www.worldhistory.org/amun/) and the goddess [Isis](https://www.worldhistory.org/isis/).
