## Image Caption

This is the upper part of a long and narrow stele depicting a funerary cortege in two scenes. In the upper scene, two mourning [women](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/women/) walk behind a funeral cart. In the lower scene, a woman and a bearded man sit on a couch. The woman's left hand holds an unidentifiable object, while her right hand receives an egg from the man. The couch is flanked by servants or slaves. On the right, the slave stands in front of a vessel placed on a tripod. On the left, the other slave carries a fruit bowl. Marble. Anatolian-Persian, 5th century BCE. From Dascylium (Ergili, Manyas), in modern-day [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/). (Museum of [Archaeology](https://www.worldhistory.org/Archaeology/), Istanbul, Turkey).
