Artist's depiction showing a tale from [Norse Mythology](https://www.worldhistory.org/Norse_Mythology/) recorded in the Skírnismál in which [Freyr](https://www.worldhistory.org/Freyr/) sends his servant Skírnir to Jotunheim, the realm of the [giants](https://www.worldhistory.org/Giants/), in order to convince the [giant](https://www.worldhistory.org/Giants/)-daughter Gerðr to marry Freyr. She refuses, and Skírnir ends up throwing a succession of threats at her, the last of which finally convinces her to give her love to Freyr.
