## Image Caption

This is one of the scenes depicted on one of the sides of the Standard of [Ur](https://www.worldhistory.org/ur/); this is not part of the so-called "Peace and [War](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/) Scenes" of the Standard. Here, a rearing goat at a small tree or a shrub is flanked by two men. The man on the right is shorter than his counterpart, wears a flounced skirt, and holds a cup in his right hand. The man on the left wears a different skirt and faces the goat; he does not hold anything. The overall depiction of the goat is very similar to the so-called "Ram in a Thicket" statue, which was found at the Great [Death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) Pit of the Royal Cemetry of Ur. The Standard of Ur is a (reconstructed) hollow box and its precise purpose is unknown. Shell, lapis lazuli, and bitumen; the wood is a modern one as the original wood had disintegrated. [Early Dynastic](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Early_Dynastic/) Period, circa 2500 BCE. From the Royal Cemetry of Ur, Ur, Sothern [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), modern-day Iraq. (The British Museum, London).
