Sandstone stele showing the Candace (or queen) Amanishakheto of [Meroe](https://www.worldhistory.org/Meroe/) (r. c. 10 BCE–1 CE), from the Kingdom of [Kush](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kush/) in what is now Sudan. She is here depicted between the goddess Amesemi and the [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) Apedemak. Dating from the 1st century BCE and found at the [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of [Amun](https://www.worldhistory.org/amun/) in Naqa, this photo was taken when the stele was on loan in Munich at the Staatliches Museum Ägyptischer Kunst (originally from the Khartoum National Museum in Sudan).
