The [Temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of [Zeus](https://www.worldhistory.org/zeus/) in the Phrygian [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of Aizanoi (modern-day [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/)) is one of the best-preserved [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) temples. Its construction started in 92 CE and continued during the reign of [Hadrian](https://www.worldhistory.org/hadrian/) in the 2nd century CE. The temple is pseudodipteral, with eight Ionic columns at the ends and fifteen along the sides. The temple was dedicated to two deities. Zeus was worshipped in its above-ground section while the underground chamber was the place of the cult of the Anatolian goddess [Cybele](https://www.worldhistory.org/Cybele/).
