This blue bowl is an excellent example of [Egyptian faience](https://www.worldhistory.org/Egyptian_Faience/) ware, and why it was so highly regarded in the ancient [Mediterranean](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/mediterranean/). Ancient [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) artisans had been producing high-quality [faience](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Faience/) for millennia by the time this bowl was produced and it continued to be a highly regarded material for use in both Egyptian and [Hellenistic](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hellenic_World/) art during the [Ptolemaic period](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ptolemaic_Dynasty/) when this bowl was produced (c. 332-30 BCE).
