This c. 275-250 BCE terracotta [amphora](https://www.worldhistory.org/Amphora/) was found in the Hadra cemetery in [Alexandria](https://www.worldhistory.org/alexandria/), [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/). It was originally produced in [Crete](https://www.worldhistory.org/crete/) and was exported to Alexandria. The aptly named Hadra Hydriai are a collection of primarily Cretan vases which are well known for their use in Alexandrian funerary rites. In particular, these vases were used in the cremation of [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) dignitaries who happened to die in Alexandria. They were also used by Alexandrians who practiced cremation rather than mummification or inhumation (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
