Mount Nemrut (Turkish: Nemrut Dağı) is one of the highest peaks of the Eastern Taurus mountain range in south-eastern [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/). The mountain top is crowned by a 50-metre high tumulus of crushed limestone rocks which was built in the 1st-century BCE by King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene. The place is notable for the colossal stone heads and thrones which were erected around the tumulus.
