This marble votive mace head was inscribed with a [cuneiform](https://www.worldhistory.org/cuneiform/) text. The text says that this mace head is a dedication on behalf of Shulgi, a king of [Ur](https://www.worldhistory.org/ur/) III, to the [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) Meslamtaea, or [Nergal](https://www.worldhistory.org/Nergal/). From [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), modern-day Iraq. Neo-[Sumerian](https://www.worldhistory.org/Sumerians/) Period, reign of Shulgi, 2094-2047 BCE. (The British Museum, London).
