Description, picture: [Gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/). The weights range from 1,6 to 3,7 gr. d=13-18/19 mm. Obverse: Non-naturalistic head, right. Reverse: Bull-headed, or ram-headed schematic [Nike](https://www.worldhistory.org/nike/), facing. Mint: Unknown. Nominal: Gold. 1,6 gr.-3,7 gr. Date: 1st c. BCE-1st c. CE. When there was no central authority in Colchis, the local lords used to strike the coins according to some popular patterns (like the staters of [Alexander](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Alexander/)) in ciculation never being particularly scrupulous about the general quality of the images and usually distorting the inscriptions.
