## Image Caption

This [gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/) strainer was roughly shaped and has a short handle. It was found at the bottom of the pit of Queen Puabi's [grave](https://www.worldhistory.org/burial/). [Beer](https://www.worldhistory.org/Beer/) and wine were drunk in [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/) from at least the fourth millennium BCE and it is possible that the strainer was used to remove any residue when serving. Gold is not found in modern-day Iraq and it might have been imported to [Ur](https://www.worldhistory.org/ur/) from modern-day Iran, [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/), Afghanistan, [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/), or Sudan. [Early Dynastic](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Early_Dynastic/) Period, circa 2600 BCE. From the Royal Cemetery at Ur, Southern Mesopotamia, modern-day Iraq. Part of objects allotted to the British Museum from Ur excavation season 1927-1928. (The British Museum, London).
