## Image Caption

Depiction connected with [Norse mythology](https://www.worldhistory.org/Norse_Mythology/) based on the Old Norse Þrymskviða poem in which [Thor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Thor/) dresses up as [Freyja](https://www.worldhistory.org/Freyja/) to travel to giantland - the [giant](https://www.worldhistory.org/Giants/) Thrym has stolen his hammer and demands Freyja as condition for its return. Freyja refuses to go, and so [Heimdall](https://www.worldhistory.org/heimdall/) hatches the plan to disguise Thor as Freyja, borrowing her necklace Brísingamen as the finishing touch. The engraving is by Carl Larsson, and the xylographer is Gunnar Forssell.
