According to later tradition, city was founded around 1000 BC by Greeks who may have come from [Argos](https://www.worldhistory.org/argos/). Aspendos is known for having the best-preserved [theatre](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/theatre/) of antiquity.The theatre was built in 155\[4\] by the [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) architect Zenon, a native of the city, during the rule of [Marcus Aurelius](https://www.worldhistory.org/Marcus_Aurelius/).
