Remains of the [woolly mammoth](https://www.worldhistory.org/Woolly_Mammoth/) calf nicknamed 'Lyuba' (Russian for 'love') discovered in the Yamal peninsula in Russia in 2007. Lyuba - a female - was only about a month old at the time of her [death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/), c. 42,000 years ago. She is the most complete mammoth specimen ever found to date. Normally residing at the Shemanovskiy Museum and Exhibition Center in Russia, Lyuba was on loan at the Australian Museum in Sydney in December 2017 when (and where) this photo was taken.
