## Image Caption

This Georgian liturgical cuff dates from 1648 CE and is called "epimanikia" in [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/). It is the liturgical vestment of the Eastern Orthodox Church and Eastern Catholic Churches. They are typically made of flax, [silk](https://www.worldhistory.org/Silk/) fabric, [gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/) and silk twine, and silk thread. This cuff depicts Mary (center), St. Nicholas (left), and St. John Chrysostom (right). One clearly notes the strong [Byzantine](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Byzantine/) artistic influence here. This specimen was made in Kartli, which is located in eastern Georgia.
