## Image Caption

This icon was painted on wood in [Constantinople](https://www.worldhistory.org/Constantinople/) in the second quarter of the 15th century CE during the waning days of the [Byzantine Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/Byzantine_Empire/). It was likely made at one of the imperial workshops, and it depicts [Jesus Christ](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jesus_Christ/) as the "Pantokrator." (Pushkin Museum, Moscow)
