This stela is from Solana de Cabañas (Cabañas del Castillo, Cáceres), Spain and dates from the Late [Bronze Age](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Bronze_Age/). It is made of slate, and it was unearthed in the late 19th century CE. This was the first specimen to be discovered in a series of stelae now numbering over 100 monuments. The figure is surrounded by the symbols of his social rank, including a [Mediterranean](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/mediterranean/)-style [chariot](https://www.worldhistory.org/chariot/) in which the engraver nevertheless made the mistake of placing the wheels on the axis, thus demonstrating that he had never actually seen the object he was representing.
