## Image Caption

The marble statue depicts a man named [Antinous](https://www.worldhistory.org/antinous/) and dates back to the Imperial [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) Period of [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/) late in the reign of Emperor [Hadrian](https://www.worldhistory.org/hadrian/), about 131-138 CE. Hadrian actually founded and named a [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/), Antinopolis, after Antinous' [death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) in 130 CE. Antinous was soon being worshipped as a deity. His cult figure was known as [Osiris](https://www.worldhistory.org/osiris/)-Antinous.
