Detail of a lion found along the processional way from [Ishtar Gate](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ishtar_Gate/) into the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of [Babylon](https://www.worldhistory.org/babylon/). The [Ishtar](https://www.worldhistory.org/ishtar/) Gate was constructed around 575 BCE by King [Nebuchadnezzar II](https://www.worldhistory.org/Nebuchadnezzar_II/) of Babylon, made of fired bricks and decorated with animals made in glazed bricks.
