This relief is part of a larger sequence showing the Assyrian military campaign and attack on the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of -alammu. The city gate, [wall](https://www.worldhistory.org/wall/), and towers are shown here; the towers are occupied by soldiers trying to defend their city against the overwhelming Assyrian wave. The name of the city was inscribed completely, but only the last part of the city's name, -alammu, survives. The city probably lies in modern-day [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/) or Iran. Neo-Assyrian Period, reign of [Sennacherib](https://www.worldhistory.org/sennacherib/), 700-692 BCE. Room XIV, the South-West [Palace](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/palace/) at [Nineveh](https://www.worldhistory.org/nineveh/), [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), modern-day Iraq.
