This ship was built and manned by [Phoenicians](https://www.worldhistory.org/phoenicia/) employed by [Sennacherib](https://www.worldhistory.org/sennacherib/). It is a bireme, with two rows of oars. Shields are fastened around the superstructure, as on the fortifications of some [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) walls. The pointed bow is a ram, for holding enemy ships. Neo-Assyrian Period, reign of Sennacherib, 700-692 BCE.
